People, places and quiet details
I photograph people, architecture, landscapes and details — some planned, others discovered along the way. I am drawn to genuine presence in front of the camera, places with a mood of their own and small observations that give an image calm and character.
Attention rather than control.
A location already contains much of what an image needs: a direction of light, colours, distances, lines and sometimes movement. I first try to understand which of those elements belongs with the person or subject before adding anything else.
Planning creates a dependable framework, but it should not decide every possibility in advance. If an expression changes, wind begins to move or a reflection appears only from a particular angle, the photograph is allowed to become something other than what was first intended.

Portrait
Good direction should provide confidence without trapping someone in a pose. I therefore use clear, small prompts and leave space between them for an individual gaze, a movement or a moment that cannot be repeated.
Place
I do not begin by looking for spectacular places, but for places that offer something to work with. Glass can return light, a bridge can provide direction, and a painted wall can hold an entire sequence together.
Detail
Details slow the eye and create transitions. A hand, a plant, the edge of a material or a recurring colour can connect two larger subjects and remain in memory more strongly than expected.
